Dysfunkshun funkin Junkshun

These cats have been swingin it and movin the crowd for a few years now. If you are reading this blog and are being introduced to the concept of Dysfunkshun Junkshun (http://www.funkparty.com/index.html) for the first time...you gotta get out sometime soon and live in this great city we call "The Live Music Capitol of the World"!!!!

The Funk was funky. If you dont think you can dance, don't like to dance, don't like to smile, don't like to sing along, and generally are just pissy then fuck it! Got to one of these performances and you will! All of the above...you will! I did and I am sure it was painful for other people to watch me 'dance', but it was good times for all in attendance.

So....check out Dysfunkshun Junkshun at Speakeasy or Cool River Cafe anytime throughout the year (the bands web page has an awesome calendar of performances)

If Miles Davis and The Doors were gang raped by The Red Hot Chili Peppers

you would get Valley of The Mariner (http://valleyofthemariner.com/)!

It was a Sunday night at The Dirty Dog (http://dirtydogbar.com/), YES a SUNDAY NIGHT, and music was FreeFlowin in the Valley of Overlord. Not that cold, but the music will always keep you warm.

The FreeFlow (http://www.myspace.com/thefreeflowmusic) was onstage first with their ever and always food feelin music and rhythms. You really need to take a hot minute out and go check these guys out. I bet they would be smokin if you see them down in San Marcos at one of the local pubs there.

Valley of The Mariner was an unexpected, but not surprising, treat. Unexpected because they were so different from The FreeFlow and MC Overlord, but not surprising because Overlord knows how to treat an audience with a diverse musical repertoire. Like the title says, this is what you can expect! I definitely see and hear the cool ass shit these guys were pouring out at the audience and know it has the originality and spark to make them a worthwhile stop on any given night! Trumpets, keyboards, and blazing guitars will surprise you and excite you.

And then there was one! 22+ years, Really! and you haven't been apart of his legacy yet? MC Overlord (http://www.overlordmusic.com/) was back and in full effect for the new year...even had Johnny Branch on stage firing up the lead guitar. It's been awhile and his always good to hear that sound. Well no matter who's onstage with the big man himself, it is always lively, fun, and NO DOUBT energetic! A must see and must do!

no Krummy night here!

This aint no beauty bar, it's nestled right there on the edge of Walller Creek at 7th and Red River. The Red 7 (http://www.red7austin.com/) is one of the hard rockinist clubs in our famed live music district, both inside and out it is a great place to catch any of Austins heavier, harder, or more eclectic acts.

This particular night i dragged my sorry ass DT to catch the Krum Bums ( http://WWW.MYSPACE.COM/KRUMBUMS ), a great local punk band with the attitude and swagger of yo momma. Just fuckin awesome! The insanity they bring to the stage and the audience brings to the floor is absolutely nuts! It is so fun to be at a show where there is still stage diving...no security being a bunch of pussies stopping the folks from getting onstages and flinging themselves into the audience. Nope! Hell No! Just do it! Top to Bottom, start to finish, it was no stop frantic thrashing of bodies and limbs. Even when the proverbial fight broke out, the music just kept coming. This was a bigger, greater performance than the last time when I them at Emo's.

The other band was Black Irish ( http://blackirishtexas.com/theblackirishhome.htm ). Thank god these guys havent gotten pigeon holed into some bullshit corner of an Irish pub playing stupid drinking songs. This is that mean, vicious drinking music that forces you to drink Lonestar and Jameson at the same time. No matter what the attitude, you hear this sound and it immediately makes you smile, cheer and forget all! Definitely check out their page and catch them around.

Many bands to hear this night at the Red 7 during free week in Austin. Next year take advantage of this bad ass event in our awesome town and great music district! Go see some live music, support the live music, and enjoy free week!
